Privacy policy

Protecting your personal data is important to me. This website does without cookies, tracking, analytics tools, contact forms and externally loaded content (e.g. fonts or scripts) – apart from the security service Cloudflare (see section 2). Below you can find out which data is nevertheless processed.

2. Hosting and Cloudflare

I operate this website myself on my own server in Germany; no external hosting provider is used. My web server does not store access log files.

For delivering and protecting the website I use the Cloudflare service (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). All requests pass through Cloudflare's servers. In the process, Cloudflare processes technically necessary information transmitted by your browser:

• IP address of the requesting device
• date and time of access
• page or file requested and amount of data transferred
• HTTP status code, browser type and version, operating system
• referrer URL (previously visited page)

To defend against attacks and automated access (bots), Cloudflare also embeds a small verification script in the pages.

Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest lies in the secure and uninterrupted provision of the website and protection against attacks. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Cloudflare. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so an adequacy decision of the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR) covers the transfer to the USA. If you send me an email, I process your email address and the information in your message in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR insofar as your enquiry aims at a collaboration (e.g. a talk or workshop), and otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (interest in answering enquiries). I delete the data once the enquiry has been fully dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply.

This website links to my LinkedIn profile (LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company, Dublin). This is a simple link – no data is transmitted to LinkedIn when you visit this website. LinkedIn's privacy policy only applies once you click the link.

This website uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by “https://” and the padlock icon in your browser's address bar.

You have the right at any time to

• access your stored data (Art. 15 GDPR),
• rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR),
• erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) and restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
• data portability (Art. 20 GDPR).

Right to object: Where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object to it at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR).
